Grup Viñas has participated in the WELBEEF project. A project to create management guidelines during pre-slaughter of calves to improve welfare and reduce the incidence of DFD and petechiae, funded through the Operation 16.01.01 Cooperation for Innovation of the Rural Development Program of Catalonia 2014-2020.
This initiative wants to make a management guide during the pre-slaughter of fattening calves to improve their animal welfare and reduce the incidence of DFD meats and petechiae to improve the quality of the meat and its shelf life.
From the outset, three objectives have been set:
- To study the impact of improving farm conditions by installing fans to reduce heat stress.
- To study the improvement in transport by reducing transport time and pre-slaughter waiting time.
- To study electrical stunning as an effective stunning method compatible with ritual slaughter.
